The Converter S8 Mechanical Unit, otherwise known as the Wolf(Ru: Волк), is a type of machine in Generation Zero. Controlled by the Soviet Union, Wolves are the country's primary means of offense against FNIX and Russia's other foes. They also deploy frontline machines called Lynxes for mutual support and light infantry.
Physiology[]
Wolves, contrary their namesake, are spider-like vehicles comprised of a long, armored, truck-like body with a thorax and four "legs" underneath. Attached to each of these legs is a pod with treads, which the Wolf uses to locomote in its "tank mode" with the legs retracted. In "assault mode", the thorax where all the legs attach to has a minigun mounted underneath it, connected by 2 metal “arms”.
The back of the Wolf's main body comprises of roof with racks underneath to house undeployed Lynx units. On the sides of this roof are two missile salvos. In tank mode, Wolves are about the size of a truck or bus, but can easily be as tall as a Tank in assault mode.
Abilities[]
Scout[]
Ranged
- Gatling Gun
- A rotary-based machine gun. The Wolf first stands firm, then revs up its weapon and fires a hail of bullets at a very high rate of fire. It is not accurate at long distance, so the Wolf approach at mid-range in order to use this weapon. The Wolf must initiate assault mode to use its Gattling Gun.
- Missile Launcher
- The Wolf fires a volley of explosive rockets from its shoulder-mounted rocket pods. The Wolf is able to use it's shoulder weapons both in Assault and Tank mode.
Melee
- Gas Release
- If approached too close, the Wolf can deploy a chemical weapon that releases a cloud of harmful gas, damaging any players in. Assault mode only. (In the profile tab under eye wear apparel you can equip a gas mask that increases your gas resistance by 40 points, also under the skills tab in the combat tree the third level armor skill give you an extra 10% gas damage resistance against machines, the vanguard specialization in the combat tree can also increases your overall damage resistance by 25%, also note that gas damage can stack.)
- Tread Melee
- The Wolf will kick attackers with one of its front tread pods, much in the same way Harvesters attack with their front legs. Assault mode only.
Misc
- Deployable machines
- From its backside, the Wolf can drop and activate additional Lynx units to fight by its side. The Wolf has a limited reserve of Lynx units. The class of Lynx will be the same class as the Wolf. Tank mode only. Once The Wolf deployed all units, it will go into Assault mode.
Soldier[]
Ranged
- Gatling Gun
- As mentioned above.
- Missile Launcher
- As mentioned above.
Melee
- Gas Release
- As mentioned above.
- Tread Melee
- As mentioned above.
Misc
- Deployable machines
- As mentioned above,
- Nanotech Recovery Field
- This class of wolf will spawn with a healing device to heal itself and the Lynx it deploys. This can be shot off and the devices needing to be shot off are the circular patches on the top corner of the roof, both sides, at the front.

Spetsnaz[]
Ranged
- Gatling Gun
- As mentioned above.
A Spetsnaz class Wolf can only be equipped with one of the following:
- Missile Pods
- As mentioned above.
- Cluster Mines
- The Wolf lobs a shell into the air that splits into smaller bombs and sticks onto the ground. These bombs immediately arm and activate laser tripwires passing through each bomb. If the bomb or the lasers are walked over, the bombs will explode and deal heavy damage, and can knock players off their feet. A blaring alarm can be sounded when preparing to fire a shell. The Wolf has to be in "Tank mode" in order to engage this shoulder weapon.
- The Wolf can only have one set of mines active. If it deploys a new set the previous set will self destruct.
Melee
- Tread Melee
- As mentioned above.
A Spetsnaz class Wolf can only be equipped with one of the following:
- Gas Release
- As mentioned above.
- Charged Shock Pulse
- After a brief charge, the Wolf will unleash an electrical shockwave that can deal heavy damage or incapacitate any injured players. Assault mode only.
Miscellaneous
- Deployable machines
- As mentioned above.
- Nanotech Recovery Field
- As mentioned above.
Weak Points[]
- The main cranium on the front contains a core drive. It's protected and encased by heavy front armor.
- The black spherical protrusion underneath the cranium is the optics. Shooting it will blind the Wolf.
- Blinded wolves are extremely hesitant to attack, even though they can still hear you. They may not even attack at all.
- There are two "circular patches" on the upper sides of Soldier and Spetsnaz class Wolves. These are the Nanotech Recovery Field generators, and are located just behind the "head" or armor plating on each side of the Wolf. After both are destroyed, the healing ability will be disabled.
- Each of the tracked legs have internal components, which are covered by exterior plating on each side. They're difficult to penetrate from the front, but the components can be exposed from the side once the side plating are shot off.
- These components take increased damage while active, similarly to the thrusters of a Firebird, which can be seen in the lighting around the exposed patch.
- Two rocket pods are located on each shoulder at the rear of its main body. Destroying them will limit the Wolf's ability to use its launcher attack.
- On higher classes, the rocket pods may be replaced by a "Cluster Launcher." Same rules apply for the rocket pods.
- The two actuators on higher classes are located on the sides of the Wolf. They're distinguished by attached gas-like tanks. Shooting both of these off will disable the Wolf's crowd control weapon.
- On higher classes, the actuators may be replaced with "Shock Actuators." They have the appearance of two circular panels, now located on a small box on the side of front cranium.
- The back of the Wolf's waist contains a motor component that can be shot at. It's completely protected if the Wolf is in 'tank mode' (tread tracks down).
- Above the motor component is a fuel tank. It's located on the central mass, which can only be shot from its rear bay,
- There are two battery packs on the waist that can be damaged. They're located on both sides just about front of the motor component and behind the optics. They will be completely protected if the Wolf is in 'tank mode'.
- Hidden behind where the Lynxes are stored, is the radiator, which can be destroyed to deal damage.
Story[]
In-Game Description[]
Originating from the Soviet Union, they were first seen during the initial stages of landfall. Originally intended to transport units towards the frontlines, it comes equipped with a vast weapon loadout that makes them a formidable multi-role machine. The Wolf is programmed into two modes: In 'tank mode', they move across on grounded tank tracks transport their units inside of its hollow body. After deploying their units, they can switch to their four-legged 'assault mode' to enable the use of its deadly weapons to support their units in the fight.
Trivia[]
- The FOA model name of the Hunter, Jaktmaskin 60 "Ulven", is also named after a wolf. Since translations of model names can appear in rival profiles, any rival with a name containing the word "Wolf" is a Jaktmaskin 60 (Hunter), not a Converter S8 (Wolf). This can be confusing for some players.
- Despite the Soviets technically being on the player's side and not under the control of FNIX, Wolves will not hesitate to attack the player, only because they were hacked by Captain Bolshkov, the Head of Mechanical Detachment Alpha, who betrayed and killed the Members of Exoskeleton Detachment Alpha, lead by Captain Tatiana Ilynichna Tereshkova who was the only known survivor . And that is also why despite there being little swedish machines in the northern areas of osterton you can find plenty of dead Russian soldiers (the Soviet dolls contain the extensive lore as to what the Russians were doing in sweden)
- "Spetsnaz" means "Special Forces" in Russian.
- The wolf’s trip mines are the same model from the apocalypse class tank’s anti-personnel mines being a steel ball with cylindrical spikes pointing out.
- Despite being one of the bigger & most offensively powerful machines in the game, the Wolf is not one of the strongest defensively. A single Scout Wolf can be destroyed with a few rocket rounds. Their health pools are generally lower than Harvesters despite possessing a minigun that can outperform the chain guns of Tanks.
- The chain guns the wolves carry resemble the GSHG-7.62 machine gun, a Soviet 4 barreled rotary gun that was made in completion of the US M134 minigun.
- The GshG-7.62 fires at a rate of 6,000 rounds per minute, or 100 rounds per second. Therefore, with the small drum magazines the Wolf has, it realistically should run out within a few seconds.
- The chain gun also has incorrect 6 barrels, whereas the real life GshG has only 4 barrels.
- The design and shape of the chain gun is physically Impossible in real life, due to the chain gun supported by 2 metal arms with no other support like hydraulics or motors to support and aim without any sort of support, the chain gun should realistically fall point to the ground due to gravity.
- Wolves are named after the canines of the same name. Ironically, they deploy Lynxes, which are named after the felines of the same name.
- Wolves are the only machines capable of transforming in effort to adapt to different scenarios.
- "Саранча" in the military designation of the Wolf means "Locust" in Russian.
- Wolves in their tank mode are quite similar to Harvesters, focusing on slow, methodical combat. Calling reinforcements, launching missiles, deploying gas, all show a distinct resemblance to Harvesters. In assault mode, they more clearly resemble tanks, with a lumbering gait and a devastating weapon with high rate of fire.
