Machines are the enemies in Generation Zero. There are multiple different types of machines that the player will encounter, each with their own specific abilities, weapons, tactics, and subclasses.
There are two primary factions controlling of machines: FNIX, and the Soviet Union. Neither faction is friendly to the player and their machines consequently perceive him/her as a threat. Machines of different factions will attack each other nonetheless.
Machines can be looted for a variety of items such as weapons, ammunition, and tactical items. This is one of the game's primary means of staying alive.
Backstory[]
In the alternate timeline of Generation Zero, the Swedish military was developing the machines to be used on the battlefield. Unfortunately, once the experimental AI FNIX got loose, "he" took control of the machines and began using them to exterminate humanity and expand his reach. Once the Soviet Union took notice, they partnered with NATO and developed their own series of machines to stop FNIX.
The player's character is tasked with both surviving the machines' uprising and solving the mysteries behind it all.

Trivia[]
- Machines can drop ammo for weapons they don't have equipped. and in the "showdown update" machines will now drop mainly ammo for guns you are currently using.
- Machines can drop health kits despite the fact that they cannot use them and that there's no logical reason why they would be carrying them in the first place.
- Any weapon the machines carry doesn't eject spent cartridges for unknown reasons. But for Firebirds, you can see ejected munitions from their autocannons
- The fuel cells that the Swedish machines (note that the lynxes carry small fuel cells) are carrying as their main power source is a currently unidentified type of fuel.
