Trivia[]

  • The Kotenok Sniper Rifle is based on the Russian SVD sniper rifle. SVD (CBД) stands for Сна́йперская Винто́вка Драгуно́ва (Snáyperskaya Vintóvka Dragunóva), which roughly translates to Dragunov Sniper Rifle.
    • The word “Kotenok” translates to kitten in Russian.
    • The firing selector switch is permanently on safe.
  • The Kotenok Sniper Rifle in-game fires the wrong cartridge. It fires the 7.62x51mm NATO instead of the Russian 7.62x54mmR.
    • In the September 14 2022 livestream Pontus said that the developers weren’t adding new ammunition types as it would take up too much space in the player’s inventory. In this regard the cartridge issue can be seen as a deliberate simplification.
  • The scopes that can be equipped on the Kotenok Sniper Rifle can not be mounted on the real life version of the rifle, as it uses a side-mounted system for Russian made optics like the PSO-1 telescopic sight, 1PN51 and 1PN58. This issue is also featured with the AI-76.
    • The railed dust cover comes from the SVDM, a later variant of the SVD. The top cover rail is anachronistic as the SVDM model and the rail was made in 2018.
  • The real SVD's stock has a second cutout in it for the sling, whereas the game's version only has the single large one.
  • The Kotenok and S21 were originally considered the weakest of weapons in the game until the recon update gave them a rebalance that reduced their fire rates and increased the damage dealt by their shots.
